OUGD503 Studio Brief 1 | Secret 7 Idea, Concept & Feedback [The Less I Know the Better]

My Secret 7 design idea for Tame Impala's 'The Less I Know the Better' consists of a ven diagram to represent the three people in the song's story; the narrator, the girl and Trevor.

The colours in the overlapping sections all represent an emotion.

Red - Love - The boy (narrator) loves the girl.

Blue - Lust - Trevor leaves the party with the girl and the narrator finds out they slept together.

Green - Envy - The narrator envies Trevor for taking his girlfriend.

Although this design has meaning behind it and could look good on its own, I felt like there needed to be something more that reflects the nature of the song.

That's why I took this design and smudged it so it was almost in the shape of a heart. This definitely links back to the song as it is a heartfelt, emotional song from the point of view of a heartbroken man.

Feedback

We had crits with a few first years where we all presented work that we wanted some opinions on. I put forward my Secret 7 work as I knew that the level 5 students had been working on it also, meaning that their own experiences and design decisions could be helpful to me.

Here are some points that were made:

-The concept is really strong but maybe not very obvious - could be a good and a bad thing.

-Could try smudging it a bit more to make it more obvious it is a heart shape.

- Try not smudging it at all and keep it very modern and minimal.

- Experiment with the size of the design.

- Look into celtic symbols as the shapes are similar to my design.
