OUGD505 Studio Brief 1 | Evaluation

I found Studio Brief 1 to be quite difficult to be honest. I think this may be due to the fact I couldn't fully engage with it as I couldn't quite find a way to make it interesting to me and specific my personal interests.

I did try to do this at the start by using different musical artists that I like and then furthering it to celebrities in general, but it turned out after some designing and talking to others that this concept wasn't very strong and I wasn't happy with how the designs turned out anyway. The concept I came to was to use people who are alive and well right now and put them on future banknotes as there is a possibility that they will change and shape our future. This concept was well liked among my peers and others in the college that I spoke to.

Once I got designing I was able to figure out which direction I wanted to take this brief in. I decided in the end that I was going to make the banknotes very modern and pretty minimal as I thought this would fit the 'future' aspect of the brief as well as catering to my own interest in minimal and modern design. The final feedback for my designs were good and almost all positive; I put this down to listening to the feedback I received throughout the project and then being able to arrive at a point where most of my ideas and thoughts were easily communicated through my designs.

There are a few things I would do differently if I were to do this brief again; one being is do more thorough research into the topic at hand. I struggled with doing a lot of research on this brief as I didn't really know what to research. I looked into past banknote design, other designer's thoughts on the future of banknotes and what it takes to design a modern day banknote along with some other smaller topics, but other than this I couldn't figure out what other research would help me with this brief. This is something I definitely want to improve upon as I know in the past I have missed out on marks in my projects due to insufficient research, but more importantly I know if I do it correctly it will further inform my design work.
