OUGD505 Studio Brief 2 | Music Piracy Research [2] Questionnaire

Today I did a questionnaire based on music piracy. I asked a number of people in my class along with housemates and a couple of people on their course.

My aims with this questionnaire were to try and understand a number of things; why people download music, how often they download music, what they think about it, and why they do it.




1) How often do you illegally download an album?

At least...

  • Once a day - 0
  • Once a week - 6
  • Once a month - 9
  • Three times a month - 4
  • Never - 1 

2) Do you feel bad for doing so?
  • Yes, all the time - 0
  • Yes, sometimes - 14 
  • No, never - 6

3) Do you eventually ever pay for the music you have downloaded?
  • Yes - 3
  • No -17

4) Are you worried about getting caught and punished?
  • Yes - 2
  • No - 18

5) Are you aware of any consequences for the artists that come from piracy? (Other than money loss)
  • Yes - 0
  • No - 20

6) Do you currently pay for a music subscription service? 
  • Yes - 14
  • No - 6

7) Do you think albums that are subscription exclusives are a good or bad thing for music fans? 
  • Good - 0 
  • Bad - 20

8) Would you wait for the album to no longer be exclusive and buy it? Or just download it straight away?
  • Wait - 2
  • Download straight away - 18

9) Are you aware of the extent of music piracy and just how many people are stealing from artists?
