I did enjoy this brief, but some parts more than others.
As I said, I have enjoyed layout design in the past modules and briefs so I was expecting to enjoy this one. I liked the way we could choose the content and have full creative control and there were no restrictions. I think this definitely helped in being passionate about the task and actually wanting to work on it, instead of feeling you have to fill a book of a load of words you don’t really care about.
I think I designed my book well, I feel that the decisions I made were informed and related to my content while also maintaining a good aesthetic look throughout.
The side of this brief I didn’t like was the production side to it. A lot of my classmates used traditional book binding methods and binded their books themselves which I think is great, but it isn’t my strong point. This is something I definitely need to learn and practice at as I am aware that the production side of work is just as important as designing and in the industry it is a big aspect of being a graphic designer.
As well as the manual side of work, I also need to work on my time management desperately. I often underestimate how long a final piece of work will take me to do, as I always want it to be the best it can be.
These two factors that I need to improve on (production and time) have probably cost me marks on this brief and module.
Overall I like how my book turned out although I feel it could have been a lot more successful if I managed my time better.
